Library Bookbinding is a book by Arthur Low Bailey. The preface says the purpose of the writer in these chapters on library bookbinding is to set forth as clearly as possible the best information relating to processes, materials, routine and various other lesser matters pertaining to bookbinding. The preface says that in some respects the book is a gathering together of scattered material.
The text says of binders that many have been in business for years, and although they may be good workmen and do honest work, they are very sure that they know more about binding than any librarian. The text says librarians who are in doubt should consult the librarians of large libraries, or apply to the Binding committee of the American Library Association for the names of reliable binders. The text asks whether the demand is falling off. The text defines preliminary matter as half title, title, table of contents and preface, and all other matter preceding the main part of the book.
