About this book
How to Form a Library, 2nd Ed presents a guide to forming libraries, with a preface that acknowledges the difficulty of doing justice to the subject. The preface says the author thinks the small volume contains information that librarians and book lovers require, while conceding that they probably already know most of the material. Naudé recommends making a book-buyer’s wishes known so that other people may help with the search or supply the books being sought.
Naudé’s two specified methods of forming a library are buying whole libraries and searching book-stalls, with a warning against spending too much on bindings. The reference listings include John Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations, described as an attempt to trace commonly used passages and phrases to their sources.
