About this book
A Book of the Cevennes is a book by S. Baring-Gould. The text says the Vivarais girls wear no costume, that there is not much beauty among them, but that their honest faces are good to look on. Aubenas is called, next to Annonay, the most important town in the Vivarais.
The arrivals halted at the first house and, waving their boughs in salutation, asked altogether how the chestnuts go this year, and the old people replied that they go very well. A little woman, aged eighty-five, advances towards the beaters, and she herself asks, "You have not forgotten, friends, the Complaint of the Chestnut Tree?" Mandrin, a native of S. Etienne, had his principal factory of coins at S. André on the sea coast.
