About this book
Tyrol and Its People is presented in its preface as a record of travel in a portion of the Austro-Hungarian Empire that the writer considers too little known. The title page specifies sixteen colour illustrations by Adrian Stokes, thirty-one other illustrations, and a map. The discussion of inns and hostelries says that ordinary travellers were not, as a rule, permitted to use the official posts.
The account of the Brenner describes the Romans taking advantage of mountain spurs that their engineering skills could turn into fortresses. The description of Leonard von Keutschach says that the archbishop was of peasant origin and chose a turnip for his armorial bearings. Some accounts of the Emperor's deliverance attribute his safe guidance to an angel sent in response to prayer and trust in Providence.
