About this book

A Grandmother's Recollections is a book by Ella Rodman Church. The narrator describes the best bed-chamber, with its hangings of crimson moreen, being opened and aired, a performance which always caused the narrator's eight little brothers and sisters to place themselves in convenient positions for being stumbled over. The nursery-maids had invariably silenced refractory children, warning Miss Matilda that her grandmother will make her behave herself.

A grandmother exclaims, "You little goose!" and asks what the narrator can possibly know about the matter. The narrator's grandmother took occasion to give some very good advice with respect to the behavior of hardly-grown girls, remarking that they should be careful not to engross the conversation, and that quiet people were always more interesting than loud talkers. Dr. Irwin took the narrator's mother aside and whispered something in a low tone, placing a small packet in her hands. A speaker asks the person addressed whether the speaker does not now bear the marks of the time when that person threw the cat in the speaker's face to end their childish dispute.
