A Lady’s Life in the Rocky Mountains is the 1879 classic by Isabella Bird (1831-1904), the Victorian Englishwoman whose travels made her the first female Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. The book collects her letters from Colorado in 1873: eight hundred miles ridden alone through the Rockies, the ascent of Longs Peak, and her famous unclassifiable friendship with the one-eyed desperado Rocky Mountain Jim. It remains one of the most read of all Victorian travel books. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
