About this book
A Midsummer Drive Through the Pyrenees is by Edwin Asa Dix, M.A., ex-fellow in history of the College of New Jersey at Princeton, and is illustrated. A traveler, over twenty years ago, wondered why so few should think it worth while to visit the Pyrenees. A few of the faces met are English and many are Spanish, and the Spanish ones show that Biarritz draws its worshipers from the South as from the North.
The dues are two sous per chair, and they are always rigorously collected. The hamlet sought is stowed away upon the mountain-side across the ravine from Eaux Chaudes, 3000 feet above the sea, and will require a climb of perhaps three-quarters of an hour. The way winds on among the herds, and the party forms in close marching order, with the guide in front and spiked staffs ready for use, because these neighbors are a trifle wild and not used to strangers.
