About this book
A Practical Directory for Young Christian Females by Harvey Newcomb is a series of letters from a brother to a younger sister. The preface says the letters were truly, as they profess to have been, written to a younger sister of the author. The text says the motives which urge us to seek and maintain an elevated standard of piety are the highest that can be presented to our minds.
On illness, the text says the great secret lies in avoiding such attacks by a scrupulous attention to the laws of nature, and that when violent disease is seated upon any part the physician should be called immediately, as delay may be fatal. A section on self-examination names as another object to ascertain the cause of afflictions, whether spiritual or temporal.
