About this book

The author’s note describes the volume as a garnering of non-creative writings, mostly pleas of some sort or other. The note adds that the author has not, personally, profited a penny by anything in the volume, and that the future proceeds will be given to St. Dunstan’s, and the National Institute for the Blind, London.

A speaker asks whether any gentlewoman, knowing that the mother-birds are shot and that practically all their young die from hunger and exposure, wears the plumes, and another speaker says these plumes are seen about all over the place. Of an old school, the writer says that she and all her sisters are disserving the national welfare by refraining from really active and resolute attempt to destroy the bad side of “caste” feeling. One piece says nothing will be easier than to take up again the peace life of Britain as it was, and worse than it was, because coarsened by the passions of war and embittered by the strain of a greater economic stress.
