About this book

A Singer from the Sea is by Amelia E. Barr. The contents list names chapters called Denas Penelles, The Cottage by the Sea, Elizabeth and Denas and A Visit to St. Penfer, among others. Joan tells John he is such a dear, good, careful father, and John answers that he will watch first and trust after.

Joan does not want any meeting between her husband and Roland Tresham, and cannot believe there is any danger to be feared from Roland; Denas had known him for two years and nothing evil had yet happened. The anxiety of John and Joan Penelles takes mainly one direction: the uncertainty attending the marriage of their daughter. The text says Denas had indeed said she was Roland's wife, but the St. Penfer News implied a very different relationship. John's tribute includes the words that he was like to lose sight of his God, but his God never did lose sight of him.
