A Study of the Topography and Municipal History of Praeneste is by Ralph Van Deman Magoffin, and its contents list, among others, the city, its walls and gates, the water supply of Præneste and the temple of Fortuna Primigenia. The contents for Chapter II, on the municipal government of Præneste, include the question "Was Præneste a Municipium?" The text gives very good reasons for saying that Præneste never became a municipium in the strict legal sense of the word, the first being that the particular officials who belong to a municipium, præfects and quattuorvirs, are not found at all.
The text mentions a gift to a church by Sixtus III, Pope from 432 to 440, of a certain possession in Prænestine territory called Marmorata. The text also says that in 998, because of some troubles, the domain of Præneste was very much diminished.
