About this book
Adventures Among Books is credited to Andrew Lang. The contents list, among others, titles called Recollections of Robert Louis Stevenson, The Confessions of Saint Augustine and The Supernatural in Fiction. The preface says the essays Adventures among Books and Rab’s Friend appeared in Scribner’s Magazine.
A first-person recollection says that most of Thackeray was on the shelves, and that Thackeray became the chief enchanter. The text says it was worth while to be twelve years old, when the Christmas books were written by Dickens and Thackeray. The text says Scott remarked, long before Waverley, that if he ever were to become a writer of prose romances he would choose Major Weir.
