About this book
Adventures in Africa is credited to W.H.G. Kingston. The narrator asks Jan how many more days it will be before they get across the desert, and Jan Jigger answers that it may be ten days, may be two ten.
The narrator sees in front a large lake and, beyond it, what he took to be a herd of elephants, and shouts "Water, water!" The voyage was not without its dangers, since now and then a huge hippopotamus would show its ugly head alongside, threatening to overturn the frail craft. Harry cries that he will tame him, and tells Toko to tell them that no one must on any account bring him food, as he alone will give it him.
