About this book

An Account of the Life and Writings of S. Irenæus, Bishop of Lyons and Martyr is by James Beaven. The work is intended to illustrate the doctrine, discipline, practices, and history of the Church, and the tenets and practices of the Gnostic Heretics, during the Second Century. The contents list a life of S. Irenæus with a general account of his writings, his testimony to certain facts of Church history, the origin of evil and the evil spirits.

One account in the book says Jaldabaoth, jealous of him, endeavoured to re-extract the celestial virtue from him by creating woman from his desire, and that the posterity of Jaldabaoth, admiring her beauty, called her Eve.
