About this book
An Englishman Looks at the World is a series of unrestrained remarks upon contemporary matters by H. G. Wells. The contents list pieces titled The Coming of Bliriot, My First Flight, Will the Empire Live, The Labour Unrest and The Possible Collapse of Civilisation. More titles include Syndicalism or Citizenship, The Common Sense of Warfare, The Endowment of Motherhood and About Chesterton and Belloc.
One piece says the writer is chiefly impressed not that Mr. Holt has taken days where weeks were needed fifty years ago, but that he has done it very comfortably, without undue physical exertion. The writer says that when he was a boy, Around the World in Eighty Days was still a brilliant piece of imaginative fiction. The writer says Chesterton and Belloc agree with the Socialist that the present world does not give at all what they want.
