About this book
Animals of Ancient Lands is a book by Carroll Lane Fenton. The introduction says the volume, like its predecessors, is an expansion of a lecture which the author has frequently given before popular audiences. The text says that a type of development, almost universal among his class, has gained for them the name of Amphibians, or double livers.
The text names the Reptiles as a new and immensely important group of animals, capable of living on land throughout their whole lives, not even the eggs having to be deposited in water. The text says the great Mosasaurs were not only the giants of those waters, but were far more numerous and wide-spread than their less hardy and prolific contemporaries. The Phorohacos is described as the most imposing of the Patagonian birds, a creature unique among the bird world, that stood seven or eight feet in height and possessed a head larger than that of a horse and a neck as thick.
