Betty Parsons advises all persons craving a tryout on WMQZ that Henri Salzman, the program director, will be in the office after three o'clock in the afternoon. A young man with an instrument case under his arm is asked whether he plays, and he answers that he sings too. Betty sorts the applause mail at her information desk near the entrance to the office, and some listeners rave about the melodious voice of Bert Hall, the announcer. Henri comments, sarcastically, "Three letters" as he scans the daily reports. Betty lifts her head from her arms and lets out a shriek, and shoves the whole batch of mail on the floor.
