About this book

Bella Donna is a novel by Robert Hichens. The text says Doctor Meyer Isaacson, whose home is London, had got on with a rapidity that was alarming. A conversation involving Doctor Isaacson and Mrs. Chepstow includes the line "I mean that I don't believe there is in human beings anything mysterious which can live unless the body is living."

A character named Nigel gets into the carriage, and the train moves slowly out of the station. Mrs. Armine stares at a man with a beard who keeps his eyes upon her, always roaring his hymn, until he is out of sight. The text says that the absence of his wife had already made a difference in his feeling towards Isaacson.

Robert Hichens

Robert Smythe Hichens (1864–1950) was an English novelist, journalist, and music critic who first drew notice as a satirist of the 1890s. His anonymously published novel "The Green Carnation" (1894) lampooned Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas so pointedly that it was withdrawn during Wilde's trial.
