About this book
The Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan is by James Morier, with an introduction by the Hon. George Curzon. The contents list chapters headed Of Hajji Baba’s birth and education and Hajji Baba commences his travels, with his encounter with the Turcomans and his captivity. The introduction says its writer believes that, were Hajji Baba and the Sketches of Sir John Malcolm alone to survive, the future diplomatist or traveller who visited Persia would derive from their pages more exact information about Persian manners.
A speaker named Mariam says that she hoped, by always talking of herself as a married woman, to meet with more respect in the house of a Mussulman than if she were otherwise. A speaker asks a Katib whether there is not a certain tribe of infidels called Ingliz, the most unaccountable people on earth, who live in an island and make pen-knives, and the Katib answers yes.
