About this book
Book of Cats and Dogs, and Other Friends, for Little Folks is by James Johonnot. The section headed Why and How says children love pets, never tire of stories, and are delighted with jingle and the fun of incongruity. The section says a few familiar nursery-rhymes serve to connect the present with the past thought of the child.
A lesson headed How the Cat Eats asks Jessie to tell something about the mouth of her cat. The text says that when Daisy grew up and had a kitten of her own, she taught the young one the game she had learned. A lesson headed What the Horse Does says that Charlie will tell whether the horse is of any use on the farm. A piece called Tommy and the Chickens says that Tommy was a famous mouser and kept the house clear of rats and mice.
