About this book
Bookplates is by Edward Almack. The contents list, among others, Bibliography, Index and List of Illustrations. Mezzotint is described in general terms as produced by the opposite process from a line engraving: a very smooth copper-plate surface is, as it were, engraved all over, and the design is then wrought on it by a scraping process. Stipple or dotted engraving is said to have been known early in the sixteenth century, with the famous kind coming into vogue only in the eighteenth century.
Augustus de Morgan wrote a book, published after his death and entitled Newton, his Friend, and his Niece. The text tells the reader that attention can be limited to judges, confined to a century, a country, or even a county, or directed to putting together all the Chippendale bookplates ever made.
