About this book
Boris Godunov by Aleksandr Sergeevich Pushkin is a drama in verse, rendered into English verse by Alfred Hayes. The dramatis personae name Father Pimen as an old monk and chronicler, and Prince Shuisky as a Russian noble. Shuisky says that the tsar saw all things through Godunov's eyes and heard all things through Godunov's ears.
Kurbsky says his father spent the remainder of his life on lands bestowed by Batory, seeking consolation in studies in Volhynia. Kurbsky says peaceful labour did not comfort his father, who never forgot the home of his youth and pined for it to the end. A character named Pushkin places his side's strength in opinion rather than in the army or Polish aid.
