About this book
Ivanoff, by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, is a play. The cast list names Nicholas Ivanoff, perpetual member of the Council of Peasant Affairs, and Anna, his wife. The cast also includes Paul Lebedieff, President of the Board of the Zemstvo, and Zinaida, his wife, and their daughter Sasha, twenty years old. The play takes place in one of the provinces of central Russia.
Borkin tells Ivanoff that the interest on the money owed to Lebedieff must be paid in two days. Ivanoff replies that he has not forgotten it and means to ask Lebedieff to wait. Borkin asks seriously whether he should marry Martha and halve the money with Ivanoff, who answers, Enough of this nonsense!
