About this book
The Game of Chess is a play in one act by Kenneth Sawyer Goodman. The stage directions place the scene in a wainscoted room in the house of Alexis. Alexis and Constantine are playing chess at a small table in front of an open fire. Constantine asks whether the hour is up, and Alexis answers that they still have ten minutes to play.
Alexis says he never tires of the game, and that when he does he will tire of life itself. Boris says it is his order against that of Alexis, and Alexis answers with centuries of pain against centuries of oppression. A character named Boris says he has held his hand too long, and Alexis answers Wait.
