About this book
Boy Woodburn: A Story of the Sussex Downs is credited to Alfred Ollivant. The contents list, among others, has chapters called Goosey Gander, The Gypsy's Mare and Across the Downs, and a part heading The Girl and the Foal. A dedication reads To the Mother of Laughter.
The text describes a girl who led Goosey Gander out of the Paddock into the field at the back. A conversation includes the question "Don't you believe in punishment?" and the line "I don't think you can stop cruelty by being cruel yourself." A speaker in the text says of Mar: wonderful woman, and grows all the while more wonderfulerer.
