About this book
Boys of The Fort, or A Young Captain's Pluck, is by Edward Stratemeyer. The contents list names, among others, the chapters Bound for the Fort, Caves in the Mountain, The Big Black Bear and The Stealing of the Horses. Darry cries that he is glad they didn't stay in the woods because they'd be in danger of falling trees, and Joe adds lightning too.
Old Benson says the lightning is just as bad here as it is in the woods and that he needs a torch, and pine is plentiful in that locality. The captain says to Gilroy that he only did his duty, and Gilroy answers that but for the captain and his men their gang would have been about twenty thousand dollars richer than they are to-day. Papers carried by Potts show how deep-laid was the plot which the desperadoes had formed to gain possession of the money stored at Fort Carson, and how they had duped the Indians under White Ox and other chiefs to assist them.
