About this book
Herbert Strang is the author of Bright Ideas, a record of invention and misinvention. The contents list names, among others, The Smoke Machine, A Gas Attack and The Cold Water Cure. Templeton had not come to a remote rural spot merely to work on the land, and had a serious belief that he was cut out for an inventor.
Five Oaks Farm was of no great size and had been the property of the Trenchard family for generations. Templeton growls that the explanation simply is that a screw was a trifle loose. Eves says he will write the advertisements and make the reversible steering as famous as Beecham's pills. A character named O'Reilly tells Mr. Eves that he wouldn't wonder but he has a flowery style.
