About this book
In Case of Fire is by Walter Kellogg Towers and asks “Life is monotonous? Things never happen to you?” and suggests a little joyride on a fire engine. Jim and the narrator stand before the chief's desk hopefully, saying they would like to borrow a couple of fire helmets. The narrator explains that Jim and he wanted to make a trip over the holidays, mostly for the ride, and picked Springfield. The narrator says the fire rig on a speed truck chassis has been demonstrated at county fairs with no results except drawing crowds.
Jim and the narrator grab the ladders, fit a couple together and, with an ax apiece, swarm up and knock out a window in the best fireman style as seen by them in the movies. Jim shouts that they must save the furniture, and the two begin pitching furniture out of the window.
