About this book
The Sandman: His Sea Stories is by William J. Hopkins, with forty illustrations by Diantha W. Horne and a 1908 copyright date. The contents give every story its own title, among them The September-Gale Story, The Porpoise Story, The Flying-Fish Story, The Shark Story, The Christmas Story, The Lighthouse Story, The Stowaway Story and The Albatross Story.
In one passage Captain Jacob puts on his heavy boots and cloak, lights a lantern and makes his way along a wharf in a strong wind to look down at the water beside the brig Industry. In another, a sailor named Ephraim meets an old shipmate while Captain Solomon is away looking at elephants with little Jacob and little Sol. One more passage says the old wharf is slowly falling down, and recalls the voyages of the Industry, which came home with spices, tea and china.
