Off Course is by Mack Reynolds. Larry Dermott and Tim Casey of the State Highway Patrol are first on the scene, where they assume they are witnessing the crash of a new type of Air Force plane. A circular door slides open on the strange egg-shaped vessel, and Dameri Tass steps out, yawning, spots the patrolmen, smiles and says Glork. Dameri Tass holds out a metal cap, one of two connected to a box by wires, and Casey asks whether he looks balmy.
A date is set for the visitor to speak before the Assembly, and the majority of Earth decides that Dameri Tass is the plenipotentiary of a super-civilization which had been viewing developments on this planet with misgivings. Dameri Tass spots a bedraggled horse and asks whether they were pulling his leg when they said you were riding on the back of those things, and the President says it is a horse and that man has been riding them for centuries.
