About this book
Bromide Printing and Enlarging, by John A. Tennant, is a practical guide to the making of bromide prints by contact and bromide enlarging by daylight and artificial light, with the toning of bromide prints and enlargements. The contents list names, among others, varieties of bromide papers and how to choose among them, the question of light and illumination, and making contact prints on bromide paper.
The book describes the Standard or ordinary bromide paper made for general use, which comes in five different weights, among them A, a thin paper with smooth surface, useful where detail is desirable. The book explains that condensing lenses can be comparatively easily mounted by anyone at all familiar with tools, using a piece of quarter-inch pine or poplar cut to a square about an inch larger than the diameter of the lenses. On uranium toning, the book says a print which has a bald-headed sky will tone only in the body of the print, but if there is any tint at all to the sky, the sky also will tone.
