About this book
At a bridge near her home, Ida sees two boys putting a puppy in danger and speaks up for him. She brings the little dog to her mother, Mrs. Mason, and names him Carlo. Their cottage offers affection but little money, so finding someone who can care for him becomes the next concern. Eugene Morris, a wealthy neighbour's son, takes an interest in the puppy and in Ida's account of how she found him.
This short children's story by an unnamed author turns an encounter beside a stream into a lesson about kindness to animals. Dialogue carries much of the action, while the narrator directly links good deeds with faith in God's care. Readers interested in older moral tales will find a simple story shaped by compassion, limited household means and the belief that even a small act of courage can matter.
