About this book
Carried Off: A Story of Pirate Times is by Esmè Stuart. A dedicatory note says the chief events in the story are true and are taken out of an old book written more than two hundred years ago. The contents list names chapters including, among others, The Pirates Are Coming, Hatching a Plot and A Brave Defence.
A character named Harry, busy attending to White Star, does not see that four strong, rough-looking men in seafaring attire have quietly moored their long-boat to an old willow stump. The men have come for the purpose of carrying off some sheep and cattle. Etta takes leave of dear Carlo and tells him not to be rash, for they may put him on the ship but cannot make him speak.
