About this book
Clair de Lune is a play in two acts and six scenes by Michael Strange. The list of characters includes a Queen, a Duchess of Beaumont and Prince Charles in the court, and Ursus, a philosopher, Dea, a blind dancer, and Gwymplane, a clown, among the mountebanks. The Queen says of people playing croquet, "How silly people look playing croquet," and that the Duchess appears to her exactly like a bent hairpin.
The Duchess asks Gwymplane to unmask, saying it is so very warm in these rooms. Gwymplane answers that he considers but her comfort, Madame, in wearing his mask. Phedro asks the Queen for permission to retire, and the Queen answers "Certainly, certainly, Phedro."
