About this book
Dante is by Edmund G. Gardner, M.A. A bibliographical appendix says its notes do not attempt to give a full bibliography, but merely a selection of works that will be found useful by the readers of this Primer. The text says that among the few notable English poems in terza rima written during the nineteenth century, Shelley's unfinished Triumph of Life stands supreme.
An appendix lists, among others, a Diagram of the Universe, a Clock of the Divine Comedy, a Table of Hell and a Table of Purgatory. The text calls the Convivio the first fruit of Dante's labours to fulfil the promise made at the end of the book of his youth. The text says Cacciaguida passes from the right arm of the Cross to greet his descendant, like Anchises to Aeneas in Elysium.
