About this book
Darwinism Stated by Darwin Himself is by Charles Darwin. The book offers characteristic passages from the writings of Charles Darwin, selected and arranged by Nathan Sheppard.
A passage says that the most striking and important fact for us is the affinity of the species which inhabit islands to those of the nearest mainland, without being actually the same. The same passage says the Galapagos Archipelago, situated under the equator, lies at the distance of between five hundred and six hundred miles from the shores of South America. A passage headed Blushing Accounted For gives as the hypothesis which appears most probable to the writer, though it may at first seem rash, that attention closely directed to any part of the body tends to interfere with the ordinary and tonic contraction of the small arteries of that part. A passage says that selection may be looked at as a mere hypothesis, but rendered in some degree probable by what we positively know of the variability of organic beings in a state of nature.
