Doctor Thorne
Doctor Thorne is the third of Anthony Trollope’s Barsetshire novels, published in 1858 and among the most loved of the whole series. It follows Mary Thorne, a warm-hearted young woman of uncertain birth who is raised by her uncle, the plain-speaking country doctor of the title. Mary and young Frank Gresham love each other, but Frank’s family, their estate deep in debt, insist that he must marry money, and the secret of Mary’s parentage and a possible fortune hangs over everyone’s hopes. Around this quiet love story Trollope draws the doctors, squires, and heiresses of his imagined county with humour and deep human sympathy. This free PDF and EPUB offers the complete novel.
