About this book
Eugene Aram is a tale by Edward Bulwer Lytton. The dedication is to Sir Walter Scott, Bart., and says it has long been the writer’s ambition to add some humble tribute to the offerings laid upon the shrine of his genius.
Jacob Bunting is described as having been for many years in the king’s service, in which he had risen to the rank of corporal. Jacob is described as a tall, comely, and perpendicular personage whose threadbare coat was scrupulously brushed. Aram is described as glad to escape thanks and praises from Lester and as hurrying away to see after Madeline. A first-person account says that there was that in one man’s vices which revolted the speaker far more than the villainy of Houseman.
