About this book
Everyday Objects, subtitled Or, Picturesque Aspects of Natural History, is edited and enlarged by W. H. Davenport Adams, with numerous illustrations. A motto given with the name Milton says that to know that which about us lies in daily life is the prime wisdom. The preface says the very favourable reception accorded both by Press and Public to the Circle of the Year has induced the writer to prepare a second volume, similar in design, but dealing with different branches of the same subject.
The text says an attentive study would teach the observer that Orion rises and sets like the sun and the moon, while the Bear, remaining perpetually above the horizon, neither rises nor sets. The text says the idea of a solid sphere, to which the stars were attached like golden nails, then came quite naturally to the human mind. The text says the two commonest species of scutellaria in England are the Scutellaria galericulata and Scutellaria minor.
