About this book
Evesham is a book by E. H. New. A note says that for the historical matter in the book its writer is indebted mainly to George May's admirable history of the town issued in 1845. The contents list, among other headings, “INTRODUCTION,” “EVESHAM AND THE VALE” and “THE ABBEY,” the last with a section headed “THE FOUNDING OF THE ABBEY.” The book says oolite is the stone of which the Bell Tower is built.
The book calls Dresden House in High Street a fine example of the style of William the Third's time. The book says the Church of Saint Lawrence has little to say of its history, and that the irregular western tower is the earliest part now standing.
