Feversong is the ninth book in Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series, the long running urban fantasy saga set in a Dublin that is being slowly torn apart by the unsealing of the walls between the human world and the world of the Fae. Mac Lane, the southern belle who arrived in Ireland five novels back to look for the truth about her sister’s murder, has changed almost beyond recognition by this point. She has been hunted, broken, transformed, and remade more than once. By Feversong she is no longer the woman who started this story.

The stakes here are existential. The black holes that have been spreading across Ireland and beyond are now eating reality faster than anyone can stop them. The Sinsar Dubh, the dark book at the heart of the series, has its own plans. And the romance between Mac and Jericho Barrons, which has been simmering and exploding and simmering again across the entire series, comes to one of its most consequential moments in this volume.

Moning writes urban fantasy with the heat dialed up. Her readers come for the mystery and the worldbuilding and the romance, in roughly equal measure. Feversong wraps up several long running plot threads and was originally pitched as the conclusion of the main arc, though Moning has since returned to the series with new books following different characters. Readers who are jumping in here will be lost, since the references to earlier books are constant and the relationships are dense. For anyone who has read the previous eight novels, this one is the payoff a lot of fans had been waiting for.
