About this book
Five Miles to Perdition is a “Young Pete” Story by Henry Herbert Knibbs. The tired horses drink at a waterhole, and Young Pete gazes at a weathered signboard that says Five Miles to Perdition. Dave Hamill says it is funny how many different names there are for hell, and Pete declares there is a lot of different kinds of hell.
Perdition admired to call itself a tough town, and its city marshal, Mr. Collins, required visiting gentlemen to hang up their guns upon entering town. Young Pete tells the marshal that all he has is the marshal's word he will get his gun back, and that he wants it in writing. The Spider says to turn south and head for the Pinnacles, and to tell Old Man Enright at the Pinnacles who sent them.
