About this book

Fruits of Queensland is by Albert H. Benson, whose title page says he was Late Instructor in Fruit Culture, Queensland Government, and is now Director of Agriculture, Hobart, Tasmania. The contents list names The Banana, The Pineapple, The Mango, The Mangosteen, The Papaw, The Granadilla, The Passion Fruit and Custard Apples.

The Queensland Department of Agriculture is said to have received inquiries from various parts of the world about the possibilities of profitable commercial fruit-growing in the State, and the pamphlet is intended in part to answer them. The text says no branch of agriculture has made a greater advance during the past quarter-century than fruit-growing, and none has become more popular. The granadilla is described as a vine, belonging to the natural order Passifloreæ, that produces one of the most delicious tropical fruits, pale greenish-yellow, cylindrical, and weighing from about 1 to 5 lb. The text says no work on fruit-growing in Queensland, however small, would be complete without due reference to the vine, the last but by no means the least important of the many fruits.
