About this book
Galicia, the Switzerland of Spain is by Annette M. B. Meakin. The book says it was in Galicia that Julius Cæsar first dreamed of becoming an emperor. The book also says Strabo, writing in the reign of the Emperor Tiberius, stated that between the Tagus and Cape Finisterre there dwelt as many as thirty different races.
The Cantares are so well known in Galicia that every one of them has become a part of the folklore of the province. Failde speaks of Rosalia as an Æolian harp made of Celtic oak. The book quotes Samuel Johnson saying that whatever withdraws us from the power of our senses, whatever makes the past, the distant, or the future predominate over the present, advances us in the dignity of human beings.
