Toledo, the Story of an Old Spanish Capital contains an account of a long and fierce battle involving Hannibal near ancient Oresia. The battle account says that night fell before either side had gained the slightest advantage, and that the confederates forced a retreat when day came.
The description of Toledan doors notices Arabian or Gothic porches and large carved iron nails decorating the doors. The open doors reveal clean patios with bands of azulejos, a central well and small trees. The street description suggests occasional encounters with a woman selling fruit and vegetables from a laden mule, a water-carrier or a pedlar calling toward the balconies.
