About this book
His Day in Court is by Charles Egbert Craddock, dated 1895. The text describes a hard winter along the slopes of the Great Smoky Mountains, where the towering treeless domes were still covered with snow. Old Joel Quimbey, in his arm-chair in the chimney-corner, turns his face upon his sons and asks how they could know there was but one.
Stephen, speaking fretfully, says it does not appear exactly right for three men to fire on one. An old man exclaims reassuringly to Eveliny that they are all there again, just the same as before, and tells her not to cry. Evelina, going out to milk the cow, gazes for a moment in surprise, and says that Spot must have been hungry to come foraging this wise.
