About this book
The Moonshiners at Hoho-hebee Falls is by Charles Egbert Craddock, dated 1895. The text says that if the mission of the little school-house in Holly Cove was to impress upon the youthful mind a comprehension and appreciation of the eternal verities of nature, its site could hardly have been better chosen. The endless files of the Great Smoky Mountains are described deployed all along the eastern horizon.
Sudley plods homeward with his rifle on his shoulder, his dog running on in advance and Leander pattering along behind, and is often moved to add the weight of his admonition to the teacher's reproof. Sudley often feels, with a sigh, over the happy child's forlorn estate. A man named Nehemiah feels scant fatigue, is elated with his project and scents success in the air. Several of the men are examining the mash in tubs in the further recesses of the place.
