About this book
History of the Sabbath and First Day of the Week is by John Nevins Andrews. The preface says that the history of the Sabbath embraces the period of 6000 years and that the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord. The text also says that the first who Sabbatized on the seventh day is God the Creator.
The text speaks of a remarkable change in the conduct of the Jewish people toward the Sabbath, saying that the most merciful institution of God for mankind had become a source of distress and a yoke of bondage. One account says the markets on the Lord’s day, it seems, were held in the churches, and that Eustace was attempting to suppress these when he forbade the sale of goods in the churches. The text says that the moral obligation of the fourth commandment, which is so often denied, may be clearly shown.
