About this book
The booklet is by John Woodworth and has a foreword and three sections: Female Wallflowers, Male Wallflowers and Other Wallflowers. In the foreword he defines a wallflower as one who is always on the outskirts of social life, strictly one who stands against the wall at dances. He says that he is one himself, or was until he conquered his sensitiveness.
The advice is practical. One passage covers grooming, with toilet water, powder, a look in the mirror and a light makeup. In another a young woman speaks to her partner, saying that he need not come for her in a taxi if the dance is four blocks away, and that a street car will do if it is across town. A further passage says that the clever make the humble adore them by accentuating one or more of the humble's better qualities.
