About this book
Imported Americans tells of the experiences of a disguised American and his wife studying the immigration question, with illustrations from photographs taken by the author. The narrator describes needing either an American or an Italian passport at the police-office in Naples, while an American entry on the ship's manifest would defeat the desired role. The account says the agents issued tickets only when Antonio and the others had their passports, with the lot returned to Gualtieri by post.
Antonio Nastasia's father is described as going to Messina and spending nearly all the money he took on clothes for little Antonio. Curro spent a month's wages on a new suit; Giunta's relatives prepared a considerable wardrobe for him.
